With a new, cutting edge design, the FinePix Z37 not only looks good, but it also offers all the features necessary to take great pictures and share them easily, bringing out the social butterfly in everyone.

Style & Substance
Thinner, sexier and bolder than previous Z-series models, the FinePix Z37 is a party camera that loves to be the center of attention. The FinePix Z37 combines a 10-megapixel CCD sensor, a sharp 3x optical zoom lens and a 2.7-inch LCD screen in its incredibly thin 19.1mm metal front body, making it easy to be stashed in the tightest of jean pockets. Available in a choice of blue, green or violet, the FinePix Z37 is able to match anyone's style and personality.

The FinePix Z37 has many great features to highlight--the 'Blog Mode' is a social networker's staple, allowing users to automatically resize images and movies making them ready for web use. In addition, Fujifilm's 'Scene Recognition Auto' (SR AUTO) Mode' cleverly detects the correct scene setting without the need to pre-select the mode on the camera, making it even easier to take the best pictures possible.

The FinePix Z37 is also packed with the following noteworthy features:

Maximum ISO sensitivity up to 1600
With the high ISO of up to 1600, the FinePix Z37 can capture quality shots in low light situations.

Scene Recognition AUTO (SR AUTO)
Enables the camera to intelligently recognize six types of scenes automatically - Portrait, Landscape, Macro, Backlit Portrait, Night and Night Portrait modes.

Face Detection with Automatic Red-Eye Removal
The FinePix Z37 identifies up to 10 human faces in a scene and sets the correct focus and exposure, regardless of where subjects are located within the frame. After a shot is captured, the camera automatically checks for red eye and self-corrects it in each and every person in the photo, saving time on post-editing.

This camera is so easy to use. It comes on when you slide open to reveal the lens. As someone is is not up on electronics, I used to hate to use my old camera. By the time I figured out how to use it, a lot of the times, the moment I wanted to capture was over. Thanks for this great camera. It was also delivered super fast in perfect condtion.

"Similar to the Z30, but better for one reason" 2010-05-10
By Yarigal (at my computer)
I love Fuji cameras - and no, I'm not a Fuji employee, but maybe I should be - I would love an employee discount! This Z37 was a deal I couldn't refuse and I believe this is my 10th Fuji digital camera I've purchased since 2004. I got the purple color and it's beautiful.

I owned the Z30 Fujifilm FinePix Z30 10 MP Digital Camera with 3x Optical Zoom and 2.7 inch LCD (Whirl White) previously, but at the last minute I decided to gift it to a young relative of mine only because of one thing I disliked about it: On the Z30 the USB plug-in was located INSIDE the camera's battery compartment. I feared the latch would eventually break off since the USB plug, the battery and the memory card were all in the same area.

Instead, the Z37 Fuji has the USB plug on the SIDE of the camera. In addition, this is a multi-use plug. With the Z37 you get an AC adapter cable in addition to the USB cable. The AC adapter charges the battery inside the camera. So unless I'm removing the memory card on this camera, there is no reason to open the battery compartment.

The AC adapter replaces the separate battery charger that comes with the Z30. This also means if your battery runs low, you can use the Z37 with it plugged into an outlet, but of course, this does limit what you can take a picture of, unless it's something near the electric outlet.

The Z37 is slightly thinner than the Z30 but otherwise they appear to be the same. Same LCD size, and the buttons are located in the same configuration. The LCD is big and bright - I have no trouble seeing anything outside in the bright sun. It's tiny and lightweight and easy to carry in either a pocket or small bag - it weighs slightly over 4 ounces.

And since the lens has a cover - and this is the way the camera is powered on/off - by sliding the lens cover open (like the first Fuji digital cameras invented) you almost don't need to buy a separate case....although I do keep mine in a case because I don't like the exterior to get scratched.

Just one complaint with this camera, otherwise it's perfect. There is no good area to hold onto the camera. The entire back is composed of LCD screen and buttons. At least the back area is rubberized so it does help with the grip.

But the pro's way outnumber my single complaint:

>>> Quick response when opening the lens cover to take the first shot

>>> SR Auto - just point and shoot

>>> Takes beautiful pictures

>>> Fast response time after taking a flash picture

>>> Lithium-ion battery - one charge lasts over 200 pictures

>>> Takes good videos - better than my expensive Panasonic Lumix

Note about the videos: You can't use optical zoom once you start filming, but you can set it before. You can use digital zoom after you start filming, but you have to turn it on before-hand in the set-up menu. They aren't HD but they look pretty good.

Note about the SR Auto setting: This setting drains the battery a little quicker, because the lens and sensor is constantly evaluating and focusing whatever you have the camera pointed at - the lens noise is completely normal and nothing to worry about. If you don't want to hear the lens focusing, just set the camera on regular Auto instead (the picture of the camera icon).

In conclusion: This is a good entry-level camera and I recommend it for just about anyone who is looking for an easy to use camera. Even a young kid. And it's built tougher than it appears - since the lens zooms INSIDE the camera body. Case in point: Two days after I received my Z30, it slipped out of my hands and hit the kitchen floor (my condo is built on a slab). I thought the camera was broken, but I turned it back on and was none worse for the wear. Not even a scratch. This Z37 appears to be built just as tough as the Z30 which I dropped.

It comes with just 18 MB of internal memory, so pick up an SD card if you don't already have one.

"Description of camera is incorrect" 2010-04-09
By shars39
I bought this camera for my daughter (age 8) from the Easter Bunny. It was not until Easter Sunday after she received the camera did I notice that this camera DOES NOT TAKE AA BATTERIES as stated in the description on Amazon. The description listed on Amazon for Fujifilm Finepix Z37 states this camera "powered by AA batteries (included)." That was one of several reasons I selected this camera for my daughter. The camera takes battery NP-45 not AA batteries! I contemplated returning the camera but how could I take back the camera from my daughter who was totally excited and can't stop taking picture with it?

The camera is easy to operate. My daughter loves the mini clips she can record. This is a good starter camera.

I would have rated this camera with 4 stars but deducted a star due to the error in the description posted on Amazon and the fact that the camera takes NP-45 battery and not AA batteries.

I bought this camera for my daughter (teenager) . this product met both of our requirements. 1) The photo quality is great 2) The lens is protected when the camera is off. Not just retracted, protected! 3) Cost, There's real value here for the money it's terrific. 4) Ease of use, the menu controls are wonderfully laid out and are a breeze to use. 4) She wanted a cool color. I could have spent five times the money on something else and she would not been as happy. 5) Size, It is a tiny camera. it will fit in a pocket or a purse without a problem. 6) memory, uses inexpensive SD media with an internal rechargeable battery.

 "What a dog of a camera!" 2010-06-21
By Yogi Moore (Florida)
I preordered this months before its release - tons of PR yet no sample images until the last minute. Now we know why - the JPG quality is mush - the resolving power of that 30X lens is no better than my panasonic FZ35 at 18X.

So, I like the lens, but I HATE the EVF, the long shot-to-shot times, the very long burst photo write times. The camera is just very slow, period.

To set up the much-celebrated 7-shots a second burst shots, it requires no less than 7 clicks to get this far, and the burst is over in less than one second. You do not choose the time, only the # shots in that second. If you need to cover a 5 second event, you are out of luck. As a action shooter, this camera is not a good choice.

The video is nice, but you will wince when trying to manually zoom that lens while filming! Jerky at best.

Finally, the batteries will drive you nuts.

Do what I did and avoid this entire generation - go out and buy a superzoom like the FZ-35. It isn't 30X, but it is more fun.

I may buy the HS-20, but wish I had avoided the HS10.

 "Fantastic for outdoor sports!!!" 2010-06-21
By C. Stevens (Western Pennsylvania)
I shoot high school and club sports. This camera has consistently delivered "pro" results of soccer and softball, as well as track events. I regularly use it at 500+ (equivalent) mms on a monopod with no focus problems, no shake, nice contrast. Great for action pics of goalies, outfielders and others that play far from the sidelines.

"Good camera but a few things could use improvement" 2010-06-21
By KenZ
This camera was very easy to using right out of the box and the menu system is easy to navigate. However the EV exposure adjustment dial was ackward to turn as you simultaneously hold down the +/- button on top of the camera. Sometimes as I am adjusting expsure in real time, the palm of my hand accidently hits the View button on the lower right at the back of the camera, changing from taking a photo to viewing a photo. I wish Fuji had a thumb-dial in front of the camera to adjust exposure instead of the dial. Taking a full 30x photo was surprizingly easy to keep in focus using the IS-1 stabilization setting (continuous stabilization). Focus was sharp at 30x, I'd say 7 our to 10 times, without using a tripod.

Although I would prefer a dedicated, chargable battery that comes with most digital cameras, so far I've gotten rather long use from 4 AA's. I've taken over 150 photos so far on one set of batteries over several days, but I also turn off a lot of the HS10's auto features, such as red eye reduction, continuous auto-focus, face recognition, etc. I also use the viewfinder almost exclusively, even though it's too small and too dim. Turning off these features also reduces shutter lag, which I estimate now as almost instant capture with shutter release.

One of the best features on this camera is the FinePix Chrome setting, which makes photos appear almost like a Kodachrome photo, with good, saturated colors. I've had comments about how vivid the photos are. The focus is slower than my Panasonic G1, especially at full zoom, but is fast enough for most of my uses. All in all, a good camera.

 "So far, so good" 2010-06-20
By Dean Baird (Sacramento, California)
So far I think the HS10 is a great little camera.

PROS

1. RAW

2. Tilting screen

3. High speed video

4. HD video

5. Live histogram that responds to EV adjustments

6. Usable high ISOs

7. Nice look and feel

8. Megazoom

CONS

1. The screen does not swivel. Tilt-swivel a beloved feature on every camera that has it, yet most digicams go with the standard static screen. At least this one tilts.

2. There is a bit of a write-time lab between shots. This does not bother me that much because of the type of shooting I will do with this camera. I think some reviewers make too big an issue out of this.

3. Apple doesn't yet have the HS10's RAW codec built into the OS yet. This will happen, but it should have happened by now. Don't know if this is more Fuji's fault or Apple's fault. It will get worked out in a matter of time.

4. Low-light AF. I don't know of a digicam that does this well. Some high-end DSLRs are good at this, but it is forever a challenge.

UNSURE AS OF YET

1. Low-light performance

2. Battery life

3. Antishake performance

4. Manual zoom. I guess it saves battery life, but you won't want to use it during video shots.

I'm still learning all the shooting/using logistics. This camera will replace my Canon S3-IS. I wish I could have stayed in the Canon line with the SX20-IS, but Canon seems to be going backward (in terms of image quality) with that line. They're also uninterested in HS video. So we had to part company.

Hope to update when I have more experience with the camera.

"Stay away from this one! HS10 = poor quality images" 2010-06-17
By Paul at PB
The purchase of the HS10 was my fourth Fujifilm camera in the past 8 years. Other than the HS10, they were all great and worked as they should...and I still use them.

The major problem with the HS10 is its' inability to provide sharp, clear images at mid to high magnification. Fujifilm has tried to address some of the issues with firmware updates, in fact there have already been two:

"The firmware update Ver.1.02 incorporates the following item.

1. In Raw data a line is visible where colors slightly change when developed by Raw File Converter.

2. Battery indicator turns on too early.

3. When "Image Disp." in set-up menu is set to "Zoom", sometimes image corrupts.

The firmware update Ver.1.01 incorporates the following item.

It corrects the problems below.

1. Some distorted images with pin-cushion type can be captured at AE bracketing mode

2. Sometimes unclear details in images

3. In RAW + JPEG mode, JPEG images are sharper

Soft image or not smooth enough color gradation in D-range 200, 400% than in 100%"

Reference: [...]

After spending more time updating the firmware, I concluded that the images are still too poor for me; I returned the camera today. All of the best camera features in the world are worthless without the ability to make sharp, clear images.

I bought three of these cards in February for my Canon PowerShot (my backup camera for when I don't want to drag around my DSLR and all its lenses). I chose them because Fuji is a name I felt comfortable with and the price was very good for the size and class 6 rating. Though I have only used them a few times, two of the three have given me memory card errors, and I lost a few hours worth of pictures that couldn't even be retrieved by two different recovery programs. I won't be buying more of these cards...I'm going back to SanDisk, which have never failed on me.

I am using this SD card in my Z37 Fuji Camera - it's large enough to record 38 minutes of video when set at 640, and roomy enough for way over 700 pictures shot at 10 MP Fine Setting. It's never let me down, as any of my other Fuji SD cards have. This one is rated HC Class 6 and I can certainly tell it's faster than my older SD cards.

 "Video audio is HORRIBLE!" 2010-06-03
By Joseph Guerrero (New Mexico)
My wife has been wanting a waterproof camera for a VERY long time. She had this camera on her wishlist so when I wanted to surprise her with a gift for our anniversary, I bought this for her. She was BEYOND excited when I gave it to her. The size is perfect! The built is nice too. It takes good pictures. She also wanted this Point and Shoot for taking videos really quick. So she could upload and share with family online. I know this is NOT specifically a digital camcorder but she owned a Nikon Point & Shoot before, which she mainly used to carry in her purse since her DSLR camera is just too big to carry around to some events. She wanted something small, easy and quick to use. The Nikon point and shoot she owned before took great videos too. She loved it.

This camera however, takes video horribly! When she uploaded the video to the computer the audio was absolutely HORRIBLE. I don't know if I got one that had a defect or something but you couldn't even hear anything clearly. The audio was very VERY low. Very unrecognizable. It was BAD. I know she didn't want it mainly for the video feature but I figured at least the audio would be good. I didn't expect it to be THAT horrible. It was so bad that she asked me to return it.

We didn't even get to use it in water. We were looking forward to using it when the pool opened up. So I don't know how it works underwater. But I wanted to make sure and write a review about the audio in the video feature because had I read that, I wouldn't have bought it for her. I would have bought something else.

"Stylish little digicam that screams "take me outdoors!"" 2010-06-01
By Gadgester (Mother Earth)
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R1FQWZWZXWCPXX The Fujifilm Finepix XP10, newly available in April 2010, is a stylish little ultra-compact camera that invites you to have fun outdoors while taking pictures. It:

- is waterproof to 10 ft. under water, perfect for swimming pools, beach, snorkeling (note: do not use in hot water!)

- is shockproof up to 3 ft., great for jogging, cycling, or even letting your baby learn to take pictures

- is freezeproof down to 14 degrees Fahrenheit (-10 Celsius)

- is dustproof

- is weatherproof except in very hot climates

- has 12.2 effective megapixels

- has 5x optical zoom and features a Fujinon lens for great clarity; lens focal length is 36-180mm in 35mm film camera terms

- takes 720p widescreen, VGA or QVGA video

- can zoom optically in video mode (but see note on audio recording below)

- is really small and weighs just a little over 5 oz. with battery and SDHC card

- uses SDHC memory card, no more xD that was championed by Fuji and Olympus

I bought a green XP10 because I love spending time in the water -- and the green body looks really nice (and works whether you are a guy or gal)! I find that, outdoors during the day, the XP10 takes pictures with excellent clarity and excellent color saturation and contrast. Using fill-in flash in daylight truly enhances the picture. Indoors, because the XP10 lacks Fuji's legendary SuperCCD technology, picture quality is average for a compact or super-compact camera. It does have two natural-scene modes where it boosts the ISO (light sensitivity of the image sensor) at the expense of increased noise. I bought my XP10 to be used outdoors, in the pool and at the beach, so I haven't taken many indoor pics.

Video shooting at 720p yields smooth, clear HD video clips. BTW, video size is limited only by the 2GB FAT32 file size limit -- this means even if you pop in a 16GB SDHC card, the longest video clip can only go up to 2GB in file size, due to the limit imposed by the FAT32 file system. Video is recorded as motion JPEG in an AVI container, so it can be played on many, many devices, at the expense of slightly larger file sizes than a more compact format like MPEG-2 or MPEG-4.

While you can zoom optically -- a feature that every digital camera should have -- audio recording's volume level is lowered during zooming. Instead, the camera picks up some noise from the lens mechanism and that noise overwhelms the ambient sounds you want to record, which can be annoying when played back on a large TV. My advise is to use zooming sparingly during video mode. If you want great video recording on a compact digital camera, you should get a Sony or Canon or Panasonic camera (be prepared to pay a lot more for the waterproof feature, though).

Battery life is on the short side, rated at 165 shots per charge with flash on 50% of the time. This is not surprising given the ultra-compact form factor. It's not an issue for me because I only use it at the pool (i.e., I have other cameras for other occasions); but if you plan to take it on a day trip to the beach, a spare battery is a probably a must, especially if you use the flash a lot or take a lot of HD video. BTW, regardless of the digital camera you buy, I think a spare battery is pretty much always a necessity. Fuji deserves kudos for including a very compact 100-240V wall charger.

Anyway, my sample video clip shows how the camera works under water. The video resolution was set to QVGA (320x240) for easy upload to Amazon, but you should be able to see the amazing clarity both in and out of water (allowing for artifacts introduced by Amazon's video compression).

In summary, the XP10 is a great waterproof, shockproof camera that every water enthusiast should bring along to record fun memories.

"Nice idea, but has some flaws" 2010-05-14
By CAW Mom (USA)
Bought the camera to use on vacation in Hawaii. The unit is water tight and takes good photos in bright light on land. However...

Images underwater are inconsistent and often grainy. Backlight adjustment on indoor photos does not work well. After 4 days of moderate (a few hours) use in the ocean, the coating on the back of the camera buttons began to flake off. Images can not easily be seen on the LCD in sunlight. The proprietary charger and transfer cable are a nuisance to carry while traveling - would have been better if the camera had been made to work with a mini-USB.

Not a bad camera, not a great camera - an adequate camera that I would not likely buy again.

By Jefe Noriega (Salt Lake City)
The picture quality of this camera is not the greatest. Often, even with decent light, I have trouble getting a clear shot (perhaps it is my lack of steady hand though). The 720p video quality is decent for the price of this camera. As other reviews say, it is not extremely smooth. But hey, this isn't a camcorder! The camera does seem rugged, and overall I like the design. In my opinion, it is small and thin enough to carry wherever. I've used it underwater a couple of times without any problems.

Overall, a decent camera for the price, but I'm not blown away.

Bought this back in January as a backup, second battery for my new FujiFilm Finepix70 EXR camera. It has performed well and was a good value.

He grabado mas de 30 minutos continuos con esta bateria. Nada que envidiarle a la bateria kodak original.

"Easy buy! no difference from kodak batteries" 2010-05-02
By Neftali Cano (El Paso, Texas)
I bought two of these batteries for use with my kodak Zi8 and see no difference from the factory kodak battery that will run you $19.99 at most places. Do the math and you will see its a no brainer.

 "Cheap and Good!" 2010-04-21

I think this battery is much better than original Kodak batteries supplied with Kodak Zi8.

Works great so far!
