"Similar to the Z30, but better for one reason" 2010-05-10
By Yarii (the USA)
I love Fuji cameras - and no, I'm not a Fuji employee, but maybe I should be - I would love an employee discount! This Z37 was a deal I couldn't refuse and I believe this is my 10th Fuji digital camera I've purchased since 2004. I got the purple color and it's beautiful.

I owned the Z30 previously, but at the last minute I decided to gift it to a young relative of mine only because of one thing I disliked about it: On the Z30 the USB plug-in was located INSIDE the camera's battery compartment. I feared the latch would eventually break off since the USB plug, the battery and the memory card were all in the same area.

Instead, the Z37 Fuji has the USB plug on the SIDE of the camera. In addition, this is a multi-use plug. With the Z37 you get an AC adapter cable in addition to the USB cable. The AC adapter charges the battery inside the camera. So unless I'm removing the memory card on this camera, there is no reason to open the battery compartment.

The AC adapter replaces the separate battery charger that comes with the Z30. This also means if your battery runs low, you can use the Z37 with it plugged into an outlet, but of course, this does limit what you can take a picture of, unless it's something near the electric outlet.

The Z37 is slightly thinner than the Z30 but otherwise they appear to be the same. Same LCD size, and the buttons are located in the same configuration. The LCD is big and bright - I have no trouble seeing anything outside in the bright sun. It's tiny and lightweight and easy to carry in either a pocket or small bag - it weighs slightly over 4 ounces.

And since the lens has a cover - and this is the way the camera is powered on/off - by sliding the lens cover open (like the first Fuji digital cameras invented) you almost don't need to buy a separate case....although I do keep mine in a case because I don't like the exterior to get scratched.

Just one complaint with this camera, otherwise it's perfect. There is no good area to hold onto the camera. The entire back is composed of LCD screen and buttons. At least the back area is rubberized so it does help with the grip.

But the pro's way outnumber my single complaint:

>>> Quick response when opening the lens cover to take the first shot

>>> SR Auto - just point and shoot

>>> Takes beautiful pictures

>>> Fast response time after taking a flash picture

>>> Lithium-ion battery - one charge lasts over 200 pictures

>>> Takes good videos - better than my expensive Panasonic Lumix

Note about the videos: You can't use optical zoom once you start filming, but you can set it before. You can use digital zoom after you start filming, but you have to turn it on before-hand in the set-up menu. They aren't HD but they look pretty good.

Note about the SR Auto setting: This setting drains the battery a little quicker, because the lens and sensor is constantly evaluating and focusing whatever you have the camera pointed at - the lens noise is completely normal and nothing to worry about. If you don't want to hear the lens focusing, just set the camera on regular Auto instead (the picture of the camera icon).

In conclusion: This is a good entry-level camera and I recommend it for just about anyone who is looking for an easy to use camera. Even a young kid. And it's built tougher than it appears - since the lens zooms INSIDE the camera body. Case in point: Two days after I received my Z30, it slipped out of my hands and hit the kitchen floor (my condo is built on a slab). I thought the camera was broken, but I turned it back on and was none worse for the wear. Not even a scratch. This Z37 appears to be built just as tough as the Z30 which I dropped.

It comes with just 18 MB of internal memory, so pick up an SD card if you don't already have one.

 "Great Camera" 2010-04-11

"Good value, but won't charge or transfer files" 2010-01-07
By FTM (Palatine, IL United States)
At just over $100, this camera is a nice value, but the USB cable (or maybe the camera itself) doesn't work for transferring pictures or charging the battery. It was easy to work around this with the purchase of a card reader and an external battery charger, but be prepared for these extra expenses. In general, the camera feels a little cheap, which probably isn't surprising for the money. Despite its flaws, it's an attractive camera with great features for the money.

 "Solid film" 2009-01-18
By Mr. Ben (mid-michigan)
My main reason for preferring this film is because, as far as color goes, this is rich color with a reasonably high ISO. I'm not really that worried about grain since that's part of the draw of shooting film nowadays (at least it is for me).

When I shoot on film, I use a Pentax ME Super without a flash, hence why I use ISO 800, since when I'm at f/2.8 I can shoot comfortably in a reasonably well lit room. And when I'm shooting on overcast days, this film still keeps the pictures looking good.

The final reason that this is most often in my camera (if I'm not shooting Kodak bw4oocn) is because its affordable and readily available. Fuji makes great film and this is a solid performer for general use.

My only concern is that I've had some issues with the film being to tight and it some rolls have been a little hard to load or to catch on the winder (its simply harder to pull out of the cassette). Half of that is user error, but it seems like I have to try more often to get this film to catch in the mechanism (and in an point and shoot camera you probably won't notice if the film isn't actually advancing). Just be careful loading and it should all go smoothly.

 "Como un chicle" 2008-02-15
By Julio Benavides Campos (Bucaramanga, CO)
Es una película muy elástica en su capacidad para exponer las sombras y las zonas muy iluminadas. Un buen balance de color y una plástica muy buena en los tonos intermedios. Le hace a uno pensar que la película todavía sigue siendo una opción para fotografiar.

"Best 800 Speed Film on the Market" 2006-01-11
By Nick Tropiano (Havertown, PA United States)
This is a pretty amazing film, all things considered. It's fast with less grain than some 400 speed films, imo. Colors are as vivid as it gets for a film this speed, and it can be used outdoors. This film is very versatile. So much so, that I generally use this now instead of 400 speed films if shooting with focal lenghts beyond the standard 50. It's also quite inexpensive. Don't even bother with the Kodak 800 speed films. Though more readily available, this Fuji product is /way/ superior in every respect.

"Rich colors, especially for landscapes" 2005-08-20
By David J. Osborne (Silverdale, WA USA)
A few years ago I discovered by accident that this 800 film produces vibrantly colorful prints in all levels of light. Now I use it in bright, sunny locations without hesitation, as well as indoors, and with flash. Outdoor scenes with lots of greenery are especially saturated with color.

My only complaint is minor - caucasion complexions tend to appear slightly pale, unless focus and exposure are set especially for the skin. That's not enough to keep me from using the film, though. My specialty is photographing children at play outdoors, and this film has become my "default" film when I can't predict sun/shade situations. I know I'll be fine no matter what conditions are when it's picture time.

 "Awesome film!" 2004-07-06
By carolyn (Canal Winchester, OH)
I use this film in my Canon Rebel and just love it! Most of what I take looks like a postcard with this film. I've photographed things in the worst lighting conditions with no problems whatsoever with this film. It can be light at times, depending on the developer, but all-in-all, I'm VERY satisfied with this film and buy it quite frequently. Most of what I use it for are photographs of family, but it is also used for items pictured on ebay and it just does a wonderful job. I can't recommend this film enough!

 "Scuba delight" 2010-07-25
By E. Scioli (LA, CA)
First rule of under water photography is distance. No greater than 8 feet of water between you and the object. According to physics; light travels slower under water than in air, therefore the amount of light the camera can capture with its limited disposable camera lens is smaller than in air.

I purchased this camera at a dive shop with the understanding of limited distance. The pictures came out fantastically! Of the 27 exposures 1 picture did not come out; octopus rarely stay still for pictures.

Took snorkeling off St. Croix. Where the light was good, the pictures turned out ok but the color was more blue than necessary. I was able to color balance the digital copies I got to make most turn out pretty good but the prints from development were too blue in almost all cases.

 "Not so Great" 2009-09-17
By G. M. Beatty-Tinsay (Portland, Oregon)
I used this camera in Hawaii. Any pictures taken underwater with this camera should be extremely close range, no more than a couple feet away, and the water has to be very clear and extremely well lit. The pictures will be a bit grainy and fuzzy. Which is to be expected to a certain degree. The best purpose for this camera is taking pictures in the water, but not necessarily under the water except under ideal conditions. I wasn't too happy with this one, might be worth the extra cash to get one with flash on it, becaues at the end of the day when only a few pictures turn out, it's not really worth it.

     "Needed a new battery" 2010-02-02
    By P. Hearne
The battery life on my Fuji Z3 was getting to were it wouldn't even stay on long enough to take a picture so I knew I needed a new battery but figured they were super expensive so instead my husband just bought me a whole new camera. Then my grandmother wanted to purchase my old camera from me and I thought since it was always dying I'd get on here to see about getting a new battery for the Z3 and just let her have it. So I shipped her the battery and she said it works perfectly and I love how it was an original Fuji battery and not some junky off brand version. It makes the old camera take pictures like it was brand new and is better quality than my newer camera. :)

"Powerful Little Fujifilm Rechargeable Battery" 2009-01-21
    By mark-o (new jersey)
The Fujifilm NP40 battery is a powerful little lithium-ion rechargeable battery. It's identical in size and shape to the the excellent Canon NB-4L battery (uncannily similar, really). A couple of one-star reviews on this page are actually referring to a different item, which is a generic Fuji battery with case. They are unfortunately reviewing a completely different product, which can give the wrong impression about this particular Fujifilm battery. (Always be sure to check the product listing carefully, Amazon carries both name-brand and generic versions of camera batteries and chargers. If the price seems "too low", that's probably why! Just READ CLOSELY before ordering). This product, the genuine Fujifilm-brand NP-40 battery, is a good, solid, long-lasting rechargeable battery.

I ordered one Fuji NP40 Battery.

I wanted the original...no knock offs.

Two non-Fuji batteries and one camera case for who knows what camera showed up. The staff answered my email in 3 business days. They sent me a free call tag. A full credit was received shortly thereafter. I found the original NP40 battery at Best Buy for $39.99 and tax. More than I wanted to pay but it is the real thing. I have a Z1 and the battery life become unbearable. Basically just a couple of pictures and it would say low battery. Don't even try using flash either. So I had to get a replacement.

Try not to get a 3rd party battery. I tried and it was DOA. I know the price would tempt you but just go with the official brand.

Sadly though, if you think about it. Camera prices aren't that expensive so you might as well just buy a new camera instead of replacing the battery.

I am reviewing the ADORAMA CAMERA, INC. Co.

This item was ordered on Feb. 19, 2007. I paid $15. for express mail. The order was not received until after March 1, 2007, which was after we had left for Hungary. The company credited my account with only the price of the item ($33.95)...not the $14.95 for express delivery. Since the item was not shipped express delivery I should have received the entire amount of $48.90 back. I WOULD NOT BUY FROM ADORAMA CAMERA AGAIN.

"Useless -- it is a cheap battery" 2008-12-09
    By Electronics lover
This battery is not the advertised capacity. After 5 charges it does not last as promised (about half of the original which I have it and compare side to side) besides the camera won't turn on with tis battery, I have to turn it on with the panasonic battery and then switch to lenmar, otherwise the camera won't respond.

The battery is getting fatter with each recharge so I expect it to exploid in the short term.

Don't try to save some $$$, at teh end it is more expensive to deal with a useless battery that may damage your equipment and guess...it will break when you need it the most!!!

"decent videos, but indoor photos not good at all" 2010-07-20
    By violinmom (the Big D)
I am not pleased at all with this camera. I bought it to replace an older Fuji camera. That one took great photos, inside and out, but it only took 1 minute long videos. So I decided to get another Fuji camera and this new one takes much longer videos. I assumed the photo quality would be the same, if not better, than the older Fuji camera I own. I was SO WRONG.

No matter what setting I use I get grainy indoor photos. At times, if I'm sitting close to the object, I will get a good photo. But typically the photos come out grainy. I even use the setting where it takes two photos back to back, one with flash, the other without, and still both photos will be grainy.

I am not happy AT ALL with this camera. Yes, I get longer videos, but I have to carry both cameras with me when I visit the grandkids. The old Fuji camera to take still shots. And this new Fuji camera to take videos. Kind of a hassle, taking both cameras, but I can't get good still shots with this new Fuji camera.

"Great size, but that's about it." 2010-06-13
By Armando N. Roman (Hillsboro, OR)
My Samsung L100 died last week, and despite being over a year old and "just" 8.2 MP, it was a great camera. I got this Fujifilm JZ300 as a replacement, and I can't believe how much worse it is in every department aside from size, compared to the Samsung. I'm no professional photographer, or even a photography student by any means, but I have an eye for detail, and there's no way you can convince me that this is a real 12 MP camera with HD video capabilities.

I've went through all the settings on this thing after taking a few pictures to make sure it was set to 12 MP, and sure enough, it was. Then I set the quality from normal to fine, and it honestly didn't make a difference. If anything, it made the file size bigger and that's it. So what's so bad about the image quality? I'll put a picture up in the customer images for you to see. Everything is grainy. At first I thought that it might just be that the images look better when you view them in a larger size, but they looked worse. Even my old Canon Powershot from 2005, a 4 MP camera, put out better quality images than this. As for the video quality, that's grainy too. I will say one positive thing about it though- the audio for video on this camera -is- better than the Samsung's. Everything is nice and clear and loud with this JZ300. But really, is audio as important as video when going over features on a camera that's supposed to be HD?

Don't even get me started on the other features of the camera, like face detection, the smoothing option and even my beloved Macro, which I'll admit- I use for damn-near everything. If I had to say anything else nice, and I'm really grasping here, it's that you really can just point and shoot without waiting a second or two for the image to stabilize. That and the audio for video are the only pros aside from the size/weight.

What else can I say? I'm severely disappointed by this thing and will be exchanging it for a different model. Ten bucks says that I can get one for a lot less that has better quality, regardless of features.
