Opteka specializes in manufacturing special optical devices for the past several years, would like to take this opportunity to introduce a newly developed product called the "HD² Infrared X-Ray Effect See-Through Multi-Coated Filter". This filter makes it possible for you to see images that are normally invisible to the human eye. It sounds like science-fiction but it isn't; this fantastic new product has been developed using the most highly advanced optical technologies available. This filter will filter out 99% of light seen by the naked eye only allowing infrared light through so that technically the naked eye can see 100% black when the filter is in place. Multi-coating prevents light reflection, ghost light...etc, making images clearer and sharper. On your digital camcorder, turn the "Nightshot" function on - the naked eye cannot pick up the high contrast black, so with the infrared filter and Nightshot combination, for example, it will help you see in the images provided, that we 'accidentally' spilt some permanent ink on this document and the text is now impossible to read. However, when we attached the filter to our Sony 'TR250PK' camcorder, the writing is clearly legible through the ink - thus the x-ray effect! You will be amazed with the power if you take the time to experiment and experience its capabilities for yourself. If you already have a digital camcorder with the Nightshot feature and are interested in experimenting with the X-Ray effect, this is by far the least expensive method, giving you the results you are looking for. Just screw on the filter, switch on the 'Night' feature, and you are ready to go!

"Does exactly what it is supposed to do." 2010-07-12
By Awesome (Sunny Florida)
I got this to use with my Olympus E-500. I am still working out the kinks but I like my results so far. The only limitations has been my camera. Long exposures adds a lot more noise. I am looking for the sweet combination of settings that will work with my camera. If you have an Oly E500 do a web search for "Olympus IR for the E500" and there are a few good sites.

I put up one of my photos that has been one of my best efforts. I used Picasa to do the simple conversion. I could tweak it better but its late.

You will need lots of light (and right now its way to hot when the best light is available). Exposure time depends on your cameras sensitivity to IR. Please read up on your camera before ordering this and complaining that your shots are not what you wanted. Its not the filters fault if your pics turn out bad :-)

I am not sure what the difference in the glass is between the Opteka and the Hoya. The Opteka costs half as much.

I do recommend this item.

 "WORKS GREAT !" 2010-04-14
By Joseph Wren (Huntington Beach, Ca USA)
I think it is funny reading the user reviews who give this a one star because they don't grasp the concept of infrared photography. Actually it's more sad then funny because they are taking away from the products rating but whatever. Anyway this filter works just as good as the Hoya R72 filters as I have owned both.

I bought this for use on my Canon 40D and find it to be a great entry level filter for IR photography. I am happy with its performance and price.

 "Works with Kodak Z812IS" 2009-06-04
By Peter D. Schoonmaker
This filter will work with the Kodak Z812IS camera with the filter and lens (52mm Lens / Filter Adapter for Kodak EasyShare Z612, Z712, Z812, Z1012, & Z8612 IS Digital Camera) adapter. To take pictures with it you will need to either adjust the camera settings through the manual mode, or simply set the camera to low ISO mode and turn the flash off. For best results I also recommend setting the camera to black and white instead of color as not doing so will generate a purplish image.

As advertised, this filter will filter out long distance hazes and take stunning landscape pictures. Combine this filter with one of the Opteka HD2 telephoto lenses (I use this one Opteka 2.2x HD² Telephoto Lens for Kodak EasyShare Z612, Z712, Z812, Z1012, & Z8612 IS Digital Camera) for AMAZING results.

Depending on your camera, it may take a couple of days for you to figure out how to configure the camera to use this. Some research on web forums will help, but the best teacher is experience. Get out there and start snappin' pics.

 "Great IR Filter" 2009-02-23
By SarCzar (Colorado Springs, CO USA)
So, regular photography getting a little boring? Want a different perspective? This IR filter will help you with that. Here's the rub. The IR filter blocks all light except the 720nm band. So? Aim your camera BEFORE you attach the filter! Great photos are waiting!
