 "Good pictures, poor video" 2010-06-22
By Kevin Delgadillo (Scotts Valley, CA USA)
Takes excellent photos on land and underwater. HD video was a key feature that attracted me to this product.

Unfortunately, the video quality overall leaves a lot to be desired:

- HD 1280x720 is encoded as 30fps MJPEG AVI (outdated format). HD video looks pretty good, but is not very smooth - it is jittery. Worst of all, the audio in the HD video contains very loud background noise -- a high-pitched sound combined with a strange low-end sound that resembles a heartbeat. It's more than a distraction, it makes the videos unwatchable IMO.

- SD 640x480 also encoded MJPEG AVI. Video looks pretty good for this resolution. Suffers from same jittery video motion. Gone is the high-pitched sound, but the low-end background "heartbeat" sound is still there.

If the video issues weren't there, this would be a perfect point-and-shoot underwater camera.

Due to audio noise issues with the video, I'm returning this item.

 "Love, love this camera!" 2010-06-21

Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R138L884QYLZKS Seems like several people aren't happy with this camera. I was showing my husband the reviews on here and we were really surprised by how many are disappointed with their camera. Maybe I don't expect enough however, I did drop it and it didn't break; it took great pictures in and out of the water and the video works nicely as well.

I bought this for $139 at a local warehouse club and I think it's worth every penny for the underwater pictures and video alone. We've had a blast using it!

BTW, the video image isn't grainy. Their are water sprinklers that shoot over the pool, so what you are seeing is sprinkles and not a bad video.

 "NOT Waterproof" 2010-06-19
By T. Ingalls (Honolulu, HI)
I bought this camera for the waterproof feature, for beach and snorkeling photos. I took it to the beach and within 30 minutes it broke. The camera was never more than 2 feet underwater and it never hit anything. Water began leaking in the back display screen and the camera stopped functioning. Water also got in the front lens area and battery. Fortunately I was able to get the photos I had taken off the memory card.

Picture quality was really nice and the display screen size is large for easy viewing. But if you plan on taking it in the water I suggest buying a different camera.

 "Great Little Gadget" 2010-06-19
By Chris S. (Seattle, WA)
I just purchased this camera from costco for 139.99. It came with a 4gb card, carrying case, charging unit, and a usb cable. So far so good.

The picture quality is pretty good for the size and price of the camera. In the daylight the pictures are great. The video quality isn't too bad either.

The HD video is a great bonus. I was looking for a good camera that could work underwater (we go on a lot of vacations that have swimming pools, beaches, water parks, etc.) HD videos take up a lot of space, with my 4gb card it can only take 12 minutes of video. There's a dedicated video button so you don't have to search around for a video mode for those spontaneous moments where you want to capture video on the fly.

One thing to note about video: The speaker on this thing sucks. No joke, there's some white noise that I always hear when I playback my videos but this isn't a big deal to me because I'll probably put some music over it whenever I edit my videos.

Design is sleek. I purchased the black one because I like those generic colors, but the other ones look great too all with glossy finishes. The camera itself is tiny but the LCD screen is a great size so you can clearly see your pictures and easily read the options and settings.

If your looking for a very portable camera for active use (sporting, vacations, hiking, underwater) then this is a great buy, for it's price. The only real bad thing is the sound during recording. But, it's a camera not a camcorder. If you're hesitant about buying this, give it a try.

The only time I hear bad reviews about this product is if it was defected somehow. Luckily, so far I haven't had any problems. So I'm writing this review based on a unit that is working 100% properly. Everyone is bound to find a defected electronic device sometime in their life so if it doesn't work the first time, return for a new one.

I recommend it this product!

 "Zoom is broken" 2010-06-15
By xxxxxxx
I bought it brand new for $40 off on Friday. The zoom in and zoom out buttons (W and T) beep when I press them but 29 out of 30 times nothing else happens. 1 out of 30 times, the camera will zoom in regardless of whether I pressed W or T. Nothing makes it zoom out. It has to be turned off so the zoom resets. Searching the Internets found plenty of complaining about FujiFilm camera zooms for other models. I guess the XP10 can't zoom either. There are no firmware updates on FujiFilm's website. I contacted the company and they told me to mail the thing to New Jersey at my own expense so they could look at it. Like that is gonna happen. This thing is going back to the store pronto.
