 "Fujifilm APS Film" 2010-07-26
By desert ocean
As always with things ordered from Amazon, the product was as advertised, in great shape, and came promptly.

Even though I live near two large cities it has become impossible to find this particular type of film anymore. No store carries it. My camera that uses this film works great and it upset me that no store carries it anymore. I guess these places expect people to just chuck their working cameras. I was pleased to see that Amazon carries it (hope they continue to), and will order all my film from Amazon from now on.

We own a camera that requires APS (Advantix) film. Apparently, this is a discontinued camera and the stores are no longer carrying this film. We have only been able to purchase it thru Amazon. Thankfully, it is still available here.

"Make sure that your camera works with the film" 2009-04-08
By Rama OD (Mountain View, CA USA)
This film is not for use in 35mm cameras. It can only be used for 24mm cameras. The product description did not give you this important information.

You have to watch who the seller is. Never buy a product from the seller who has a very strict return policy. For instance, Photoworld will not allow you to return this product if you bought it by mistake (if you read their return policy, almost nothing can be returned). Always buy things from Amazon or a reputable seller who has a decent return policy. Also, if you see that Amazon is the seller in the product list view, the seller may be switched to a different seller when you enter into the product page. You'll need double check the seller when you place the order.

"Comparable with the Kodak, and save a bit" 2007-02-09
By Wiseguy 945 (Omaha, NE)
I have one of the standard kodax avantix cameras, and I must say that I can't tell the difference between this and Kodak film in my camera. I see another reviewer mentioned problems with his olymus and a difference when used in it. My camera is not one of the more expensive one, so I don't expect mych out of it. I find that the pictures are good for my average use. SO check this out, not a problem in my book, but you may have to check for yourself.

"Versatile camera, great pix for the price" 2010-07-19
By Jesse S (Norwood, MA)
I read all the other Amazon reviews for this camera, and read the specs on the Fuji website before buying the camera. After using it for a day, I'm pleased to say that it has exceeded my expectations.

The menus are well laid out, and the modes and settings are very easy to change. I've read the manual fairly carefully and have experimented a good deal with some of the "shooting modes" and have the following suggestions and observations for those (few) who have complained of poor picture quality. (I've gotten outstanding results so far).

First, be aware that this camera has a WIDE ANGLE lens, which means that it's designed to capture a wider field of view than a "normal" 35 mm equivalent lens. This makes it good for close quarters (e.g. indoor photography where you're trying to get as much of a room as possible, or as many people as possible, into the frame). I just spent this afternoon photographing the interior of a small 17th century post-and-beam house, and the wide angle lens captured more of the interior than a 35 mm equivalent lens would have. The downside of the wide angle lens is that you will see some "fisheye" bending at the edges of the frame, but the bending does disappear as you zoom out to a longer focal length. The wide angle also means that, even with full zoom, subjects will appear farther away than with a "normal" zoom lens. So if you want maximum zoom magnification of distant objects, a wide angle lens probably isn't your best choice. On the other hand, if you want maximum field of view for nearby scenes and people, wide angle is the way to go. (This lens can also do "macro" closeups, but I haven't tried that yet).

Second, it helps if you read up on ISO settings and understand that some unavoidable digital "noise" creeps into digital photos at higher ISO settings. The higher the ISO setting, the more unwanted "noise" you're going to get. Therefore, you get the best quality shots at the lowest ISO setting (100 for this camera). Read the manual and learn how to either set the ISO manually to 100 (in shooting mode "Program AE") and/or use the other modes in such a way as to induce it to choose the lowest ISO possible. This camera seems to have very low noise at ISO 100, some at ISO 400, and is marginal at ISO 800. Try to avoid ISOs above 400.

Third, change the "Image Quality" setting from Normal to Fine. The camera comes set to Normal, which means that your photos will be digitally compressed to save storage space. However, the compression process loses some image quality. To get the best image quality, change to Fine, which will save photos without compression and thus give the best image quality. If you want more storage space and don't care so much about image quality, you can change back to Normal.

Fourth, read the manual and experiment with the different shooting modes, which make this camera quite versatile. I just shot the interior of the historic house I mentioned above using a tripod and the "Night (Tripod)" shooting mode, and the photos came out great even though there was little interior light and I chose not to use a flash. The Night (Tripod) mode gives up to 4 seconds of shutter open time for very low light conditions, at low ISO settings (like 100) for great quality shots.

Fifth, experiment with the "White Balance" adjustment in shooting mode "Program AE". White balance can make a big difference in the color of your shots.

Sixth, learn how to read the info shown on the screen as you set up for a shot. The shooting mode, ISO, image quality (Normal or Fine), White Balance, and flash status are all shown on the screen and are important things to be aware of. Depress the shutter button half way and see the shutter speed and f-stop displayed in the lower left corner. If the ISO and shutter speed aren't going to be satisfactory, make the needed adjustments to the shooting program or flash before taking the shot. Also learn how the auto focus works, how it signals that the auto focus has locked in(beep and steady green light) and how the red AF! indicator means that the camera is unable to auto focus, due to low light or some other condition. No focus=blurry photo.

Seventh, avoid the "SR Auto" mode. All it does is choose one of the other shooting modes automatically, which you should be able to do for yourself based on what/where you're shooting. According to the manual, the "SR Auto" mode is apparently a battery hog, because the manual recommends that, if your batteries are draining too quickly, you not use the SR Auto mode. And some of the other reviews here have complained about buzzing noises in the SR Auto mode (though I haven't experienced it). Don't bother using SR Auto. Problem solved.

In short, this camera gives you a lot of ways to take great pictures, but it can't do its best work until you help it out by setting it up right and learning how to understand what it's telling you. If you take the time to follow the above steps you'll be shooting great photos in one day. (And, to be fair, other reviewers have reported good results right out of the box without bothering to read the manual. Just saying...if you're getting bad results, don't blame the camera...unless it's obviously broken.)

I just received my Fujifilm camera, but I am not happy with the photographies that it takes, when I need to use the flash, the photographies are like blurry, also when I take pictures with the zoom, I did not expected this from a Fujifilm camera. It is also making an extra noise when taking a picture from the lens.

I gave the camera to my 8 year old grandson as a gift. It is working well for him and easy to use. It takes an awesome underwater and outdoor/indoor picture and he says it is easy to upload and has simple features to use. A winner in its price range and a great purchase - he loves it.

"I love my new camera!" 2010-07-06
By Alex Greenberg (Southbury, CT, US)
What a nice little camera this is! I take pictures whenever I go Kayaking ( or any outdoorsy thing ), and I've already killed a nice point-n-shoot. I keep my Fuji around my neck on a lanyard and squeeze off shots when I feel like it. No more plastic bags, no more fumbling around in my drypack for a picture which won't wait.

Picture quality is fine. 10mp, decent zoom, farly bright screen but what the heck, I got because it's rugged.

Highly recommended! Perfect for out on the water.

"this is an awesome camera!!!" 2010-04-14
By Kat (ohio)
is this the coolest camera or what? maybe i'm just like this cuz my other camera was really cruddy...but this rocks! it focuses before it takes the pic (unless you go to settings and put it on the setting to make it take it right away). i haven't used the waterproof feature yet, but is that awesome or what?!

the things i dont like:

the only colors you can do is 'color' and 'b&w'

when you stop the video, it cuts off the very end

it takes awhile to turn the volume up or down, having to go to menu then settings.

the things i do like:

it zooms wayy up

there are lots of cool features and effects you can do, even crop it and make it look like a watercolor!

it takes really clear pix

it has lots of settings for taking pictures.

it has a nice big screen and when you zoom up the lens (there is an internal one) goes out instead of making it look all pixely

for videos, while you're taking it, it will zoom up if you press 'T' and when you replay it, you can hear it.

yeah, there are a few things i can't stand. but for the most part, i adore this camera and am known to often go around the house saying "have i mentioned i love my camera?" and mom always answers "yeah, you may have mentioned that a few times..."

LOVE IT!!!!!!

 "Great Camera" 2010-07-26

This camera is perfect for my purpose. I didn't really want to take underwater photos, I just wanted to be able to be swimming in the water and be able to take photos of people in the water. The quality of the photos are great! This camera is lightweight and easy to use. (I made my own wrist strap out of cut noodles to keep it from sinking). I definitely recommend this WP camera!

"Best underwater camera for the money!" 2010-07-20
By GA
I went on vacation to Cozumel, Mexico and wanted to have an underwater camera for snorkeling. This camera took great photos and video.

At first there is that concern that it won't do well underwater, but it really came through. It has a large view screen but like any camera outdoors it was difficult to see the image, but after the second day, I got the feel for the camera and with the right angles I took great pics. My sister and sister-in-law bought this camera also and we were all amazed at the quality of the photos and ease of use. It takes beautiful pictures outside of the water also. The only drawback is that it doesn't come with a flotation strap or a manual, you get a CD for the computer that wouldn't work on our computers.

"Great Water Resistance So Far" 2010-07-20
By Little Chickadee (Westmont, NJ)
We got this camera to replace a Valo waterproof camera that filled with water & was destroyed first exposure to H20. Wasn't sure whether to chance it again. This camera takes fantastic video & still jpegs in the pool on a sunny day. We brought it into the Altantic Ocean on the north-east coast, where the water is greenish-- darker than I've seen it in Florida. The camera was not able to get images through the ocean. However, because it's so water-resistant, we were able to get great shots of surfing & playing in the ocean, without worrying about the water damaging the camera. The clarity is great, and the shutter speed is so fast that it really catches a spray or splash of water-- really cool as you see all the droplets fanned out, sparkling in the sun.

Where this camera falls short is when lighting is low. The flash is poor and when it is not bright and sunny the picture becomes grainy. However, for catching water fun on camera, it was amazing. If it is your only camera, you may find it frustrating with indoor and low light photography, but for a great, fun way to capture fun in the sun & water, it was fantastic.

Another feature that we like is the rechargeable battery. It does seem to run out of charge fairly quickly-- after 2 days of taking pictures & videos & reviewing them frequently, we needed to recharge. But charging doesn't take too long-- maybe an hour (haven't actually timed it, tho), and it's so much fun to get those water shots.

 "for wakeboarding" 2010-07-19
By Eric G. Kishi (Northern California)
This camera takes great pictures and I have taken it on rafting trips and snowskiing as well.

Only bad thing is that in the continous shot mode it is really really slow. I bought this camera so I could use it for action wakeboard shots from the inner tube behind the boat while people jump over. But it is so hard to time a single shot it gets frustrating.

I think I am going to get the olympus waterproof as their continous shot is really fast.

But all in all if you just want this camera to be waterproof for simple shots around water or snow its perfect.

 "A great value" 2010-03-03
By Guy Elden Jr.
I've been shooting medium format film for around a year, after cutting my teeth on digital cameras for 10 years. Fuji is pretty much the only remaining instant film manufacturer in the world (that is until hopefully The Impossible Project launches their newly revamped lineup utilizing original Polaroid equipment!) ... as such, they pretty much own the market right now. I use their 3.25 x 4.25 film with a Polaroid holder on a Mamiya RZ67 Pro II camera, and I find the results absolutely outstanding. I end up with a full 7cm x 7cm image - not enough to fully cover the print, but very good, and nicely centered (vertically and horizontally).

The results you get with instant film, I find, depend very much on the quality of lighting that you start with. Indoors, it is very important to be using a nicely diffused flash, or preferably studio strobes. Outdoors, a nice early or late sunlight, or any time of the day diffused cloudy conditions produce the best results with this film.

One other aspect of this film that is worth considering is really the novelty factor. These days, there are a lot of younger folks who just never had that "shake it like a polaroid" experience. With this film, you get instant gratification in a couple of minutes, and the results last (at least a year so far for my prints, which I archive in archival safe photo albums). Friends who I've taken pictures of just marvel at the fact that instant film even exists anymore... so my advice is to snap up some packs (the 5 pack here is a great deal!), take some prints, and spread the word - instant photography is still alive and well!

"Better than Polaroid color instant pack film" 2010-01-21
By Robert J. Crowley (Sudbury, MA United States)
Nicer colors, sharper, and more consistent results are what I have enjoyed with FP-100c over the last remainders of Polaroid 669. I can even reclaim a pretty nice usable color negative from this film by wiping off the black backing with bleach after a couple of minutes of developing. It is a little messy but then you get a positive and a nice negative that reveals nice shadow details when scanned with a good scanner such as an Epson 750 pro and Silverfast SW. The only reason I give it four instead of five stars is because fuji charges too much for the 4x5 version of this fine film, so I am protesting. Otherwise a great material suitable for artistic, documentary and other serious applications, and just for fun too. People are amazed at the colors, especially the glowing reds. Ooohh.
